When two people toast with the glasses, led displays shows an arrow in the bottom of both glasses, that points in one direction.
One could imagine an activity using the glasses a bit similar to the children’s game: “spin the bottle”.
An everyday objects and its function, a new way of toasting, 2005
A glass is regarded as something to drink from, and when people toast with glasses, it has a social function.
This social function is already embedded in our understanding through the well-known function of a toast. We thought that this social function had a greater social potential. We wanted to put a focus on this function and add an extra possibility; hoping people will use the glasses in new ways. Maybe the glasses could help people in social situations or just make a social meeting more interesting.
ToastGlass was exhibited at the student exhibition in Ars Electronica 2006
